Turning to Alcohol During Emotional Turmoil
Reflecting on her past, Sunaina shared that she turned to alcohol during an emotionally vulnerable phase. "Alcohol is not a bad thing, but alcoholism is when you do not have control over your drinks. I was going through a very difficult time, feeling emotionally vulnerable, and wanted to numb my senses, so I started drinking. That was the worst phase of my life," she admitted.
Losing Control: From Occasional Drinking to Addiction
What started as an escape soon turned into a daily habit, leading to dangerous consequences. Sunaina recalled instances where she had no memory of her actions, often blacking out. "I have fallen off beds, injured myself, slipped from a chair—it was a very difficult phase. It’s a vicious cycle because you get high, your brain is numb, and the next day, you experience anxiety, panic attacks, dehydration, and exhaustion. You don’t want to get back into a good state, so you start drinking again,” she explained.
Family Intervention: A Turning Point
Realizing the severity of the situation, her parents, rakesh roshan and Pinkie Roshan, intervened. They took away her credit cards and cut off financial support upon discovering that she was spending everything on alcohol. They also distanced her from friends who enabled her drinking habits.
Seeking Rehabilitation and Overcoming Addiction
Sunaina eventually recognized that she needed help. "I sat my parents down and said, ‘This is the environment, and I want to come out of it." Although she initially asked her parents to find a rehabilitation center, she later took the initiative herself and checked into a facility, where she spent 28 days in recovery.

Her decision to seek help made her parents and brother, Hrithik Roshan, incredibly proud. Sunaina’s story serves as an inspiring testament to resilience, self-awareness, and the power of seeking support in overcoming addiction.
