What is the rule for films and online content?

In india, the regulation of films and online content aims to balance freedom of expression with public morality and order, with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) playing a key role in setting guidelines and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) certifying films for public exhibition.

Before the release of films in india, an organization sees how the film iswhether it can be shown to everyone or not. The name of this organization is 'Central Board of Film Certification' (CBFC). It is commonly called the Censor Board. These people watch films according to the 'Cinematograph Act 1952' and 'Cinematograph (Certification) Rules 1983'.

According to the rules of the Censor Board, if a film is found to be inappropriate for children or younger people, then it is certified only for adults. It is ensured that obscene, violent or inappropriate content does not reach everyone without restriction.

Under the IT Act 2021, an ethics code has been implemented for online content (such as Netflix, amazon Prime, Hotstar etc.). These platforms have to distribute their films and web series according to age. If something is only for adults, then the OTT platform has to see whether the viewer is really an adult or not.

However, the government did not clarify in parliament how many pornographic sites are present on the Internet in india and how many websites have been blocked so far. The government has only given information about the laws and rules related to pornographic content, but did not present any concrete data on this issue.
