Filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari, who is gearing up to bring the much-anticipated Ramayana to life with ranbir kapoor and sai pallavi, recently spoke about his filmmaking journey and career in an interview with Komal Nahta on the series Game Changers.
During the conversation, he shared insights on why remaking classics like amar akbar anthony and Deewar is a challenging task in today’s time and revealed his preference when asked to choose between directing Mirzapur 4 or Animal Park.
Why It’s Difficult to remake Classics
When asked which film from the 1970s he would like to remake and who he would cast, Nitesh expressed his admiration for amar akbar anthony and Deewar but acknowledged the challenges of recreating them today.
He said, “It would either be amar akbar anthony or Deewar. But I don’t think I can cast for it today. Humare actors log ready nahi honge sir. amar akbar anthony aur Deewar aj ki date main banana bohot difficult hai sir. (Our actors won’t get ready. In today’s time, it is very difficult to make amar akbar anthony or Deewar).”
Amar Akbar Anthony remains a cult classic in indian cinema, starring Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, and amitabh bachchan, directed by manmohan Desai. On the other hand, Deewar, written by the iconic duo Salim–Javed and directed by yash Chopra, cemented amitabh Bachchan’s image as the ‘angry young man’ in hindi cinema.
Nitesh’s Choice: Animal Park Over Mirzapur 4
When asked to choose between Mirzapur 4 and Animal Park for his next project, Nitesh opted for Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal Park, the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Animal, directed by sandeep Reddy Vanga.
Explaining his choice, Nitesh said, “I will go for Animal Park. I have to choose between two genres which probably I wouldn’t do… given only two choices I am choosing the better and more tempting out of the two, which allows me to get greater performances out and to work with someone very dear to me, Ranbir.”
The Grand Vision for Ramayana
Nitesh Tiwari’s highly ambitious Ramayana is set to release in two parts. Ramayana Part One is scheduled to hit theatres in 2026, followed by Part Two in 2027. sai pallavi will play Sita, while yash will take on the formidable role of Ravana. Fans are eagerly awaiting this magnum opus that promises to bring India’s epic tale to the big screen in a spectacular manner.
