My face was blackened, and I was made to apologize by falling at their feet, Hansal Mehta accused Shiv Sena, of supporting Kunal Kamra

Kunal Kamra Controversy: Hansal Mehta has supported Kunal Kamra and has told the story of the atrocities committed against him. He has posted on social media that whatever happened to the comedian was wrong.

Kunal Kamra Controversy

Shiv Sena workers are continuing to create a ruckus over the controversial comedy done by Kunal Kamra on Maharashtra Deputy cm Eknath Shinde. Kunal Kamra, while giving a statement on this matter, has clearly said that he will not apologize in this matter. Now, film director hansal mehta has supported Kunal and has told the story of the atrocities committed against him.

Hansal Mehta has shared a post on instagram and told that 25 years ago, in one of his films 'Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar' in which manoj bajpayee was in the lead role, his office was vandalized by goons of (undivided) shiv sena due to an allegedly objectionable line. He posted on instagram and wrote'What happened to Kamra is sad, not new for Maharashtra. I have gone through this.'

'They beat me up, blackened my face'

Hansal Mehta wrote- that 25 years ago, loyalists of the same (then undivided) political party broke into my office, vandalized me, blackened my face, and forced me to publicly apologize for a dialogue from my film (Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar). 'Falling at the feet of an elderly woman' - this line was not harmful, almost trivial. The censor board had already approved the film with 27-second cuts. But it made no difference.

'Hurt my soul'

The filmmaker further said'At the so-called apology site, at least 20 political figures arrived in full force to oversee an event that can only be defined as an embarrassment. With ten thousand spectators and the mumbai Police silently watching. That incident hurt not just my body but also my soul. It blunted my filmmaking ability, suppressed my courage and silenced parts of me that took years to regain.'

In the end, hansal mehta wrote- 'No matter how deep the disagreement, no matter how deep the provocation - violence, threats and insults can never be justified. We have the right to better ourselves and each other. We have the right to dialogue, disagreement, and dignity with ourselves.'
