Ranya Rao Case: New twist in Ranya Rao case, third accused sent to 14-day judicial custody


There has been a new twist in the Ranya Rao gold smuggling case. The third accused in this high-profile case, Sahil Jain, has been sent to 14-day judicial custody by the Special Economic Offenses Court. Today i.e. on april 2, 2025, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) produced Sahil in the court. This decision was taken after the expiry of his custody period.


On the other hand, kannada actress Ranya Rao has approached the karnataka High court for bail. On Tuesday, her lawyer BS Girish filed a petition in the High Court. Earlier, the lower courts had rejected her bail thrice. There are serious allegations against Ranya, due to which the court refused to grant her relief.

On march 27, the 64th CCH Sessions court of Bengaluru rejected her bail plea. Earlier on march 14, the Special Economic Offenses court and the Magistrate court also rejected her application. Ranya was arrested on march 3 at Kempegowda international Airport in Bengaluru. 14.8 kg of gold was recovered from her, which she was allegedly smuggling.


The DRI has informed the court that Ranya has confessed to buying gold through hawala. The investigation also revealed that Sahil Jain was playing an important role in this smuggling network. The DRI has started an investigation under section 108 of the Customs Act to get to the depth of financial irregularities and violations of law in this case. The case started when Ranya was caught at the airport. The value of gold recovered from her is estimated to be more than Rs 12 crore.
