The legacy of legendary indian filmmaker shyam benegal will be honored at the 'New York indian Film Festival'. The 'New York indian Film Festival' will celebrate its silver jubilee this year, showcasing a list of renowned artists such as Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, james Ivory and Rasika Duggal for their cinematic achievements.
The longest-running American festival dedicated to indian independent cinema will be held from june 20 to 22. This will be its 25th edition. The festival will bring forth "bold new voices, popular writers, and important narratives" from the indian subcontinent and its diaspora around the world.
'This platform has become a global platform for Indian cinema'
Festival director Aseem Chhabra said in a press conference on Monday, 'What started as a ground-level platform has now become a global platform for indian independent cinema.' Chhabra said, 'Our list this year will be the most impressive and focused on different topics to date. The 25th edition of NYIFF is going to reflect the emerging language of indian cinema. This edition will focus on in-depth individual documentaries to regional stories that rarely reach the world audience.'

The festival will pay tribute to shyam benegal, the "legend of indian parallel cinema", who died in december 2024 at the age of 90. NYIFF will screen Benegal's 1976 historical film 'Manthan' reconstructed through a '4K restoration' process, which has been prepared in '4K' (resolution) by the Film heritage Foundation. The film based on the White Revolution in India premiered at 'Cannes Classics in 2024.
The festival will also honor the works of Oscar-winning film director james Ivory, including 'An Arrested Moment', a short documentary on the 'Metropolitan Museum of Art' directed by Dev Benegal. The film reflects Ivory's "enduring fascination with indian art and culture".
