'Rustom' is an  Indian crime-mystery film written by Vipul K Rawal and directed by Tinu Suresh Desai. The movie features Akshay Kumar and Ileana D'Cruz in titular roles. As we all know the movie is based on real life incident of Naval Officer KM Nanavati. The plot is simple. A marriage goes haywire as wife cheats her husband and husband puts a bullet into his wife's secret lover. How this issue is blended with National security is the brilliance shown in screenplay. The movie also speaks on the utopian nature of suburban marriages.

Akshay Kumar is an honest, integrity filled Naval commander Rustom Pavri. He shoots his wife's lover and then slays it in Courtroom. The court room drama which happens there after is sheer brilliance. Akshay Kumar as always fits the bill perfectly. As Commander Rustom Pavri he is rigid and cool as a husband. Ileana D'Cruz as Cynthia has worked on a character filled with negative shades. This is a make or break movie for Ileana and she has done justice to her role. She is gorgeous and resplendent too. However, it is hard to say whether this movie could elevate her career or not. Arjan Bajwa has done a decent performance as Vikram Makhija. Rest of the characters have done justice to the roles. Sachin Khedekar as Public Prosecutor Lakshman Khangani is effing perfect. The biggest strength of 'Rustom' is the casting and that is obvious from each frame. The movie is defined pretty well.

The movie is based on KM Nanavati and the screenplay was handled well by Tinu Suresh Desai. He has directed the movie with brilliance at places. That is highly essential for Court Drama too. The music for Rustom is composed by Arko Pravo Mukherjee, Raghav Sachar, Ankit Tiwari, and Jeet Gannguli. while the lyrics are penned by Manoj Muntashir. The lyrics of the movie are so meaningful. Especially  "Dekha Hazaro Dafaa" song sung by Arijit Singh himself will be loved by everyone. Santosh Thundiyil's cinematography takes us back to the vintage days period. He has used various lenses and has taken the cinematography to new level. Editing of the movie is a major flaw and with more cuts, the dragging portion could have been avoided. The courtroom scenes pack a few gems and the judge’s sardonic humour is well-placed. But at the end few scenesfeaturing jury's indecision is too much melodramatic.  Esha Gupta is used for some unwanted seductive portion and why are those low cut outfits necessary ?

The movie is strictly a one time watch for Akshay Kumar. However those who don't know the real Nanavati case might enjoy it. Casting is spectacular and that is the biggest strength. Music is average and nothing much to brag about. The movie should have avoided some cliches and have provided some negative impact.
