Avunu Review: Story


Harsha [Harsha] & Mohini [Poorna], lovers for six years and newly wed, starts their dreamy life in new house which was just bought. While Harsha is away, Mohini witness un-imaginable & scary instances in thier house, she later realizes these incidents as cranky acts of a 'ghost', which want to have sexual relation with her. Mohini convinces Harsha and couple plan to get-a-way from the house, but ghost doesn't let them go. In dramatic series of events, Mohini end up killing her be-loved husband Harsha and gets arrested by Police. Who is this Ghost and why would Mohini kill her six years lover and husband in just 2 weeks after marrige to be seen on the silver screen.

Avunu Review : Star Performances


Poorna as Mohini was amazing, she gave her career best performance in this movie. Entire flick revolves around Mohini charecter, One should watch the way she performed scary action and yet the way she performed while facing Ghost. Chalapathi Rao played a brief role as hero father and his acting was neat as usual. Performance of neighbourhood kid who can see and talk to Ghosts was good. Harsha appeared to be just-for name sake in the beginnging but gave wonderful performance towards the end. 

Avunu Review : Direction, Music & Technical Aspects


Ravibabu secured his position as director for next few years with this flick. Though the story wasn't anything amazing, the way he presented it along with his own gripping screenplay is what makes Avunu different. Music Director, Sekhar Chandra's background score is certainly an asset to this thriller flick and creates required mood for the situation in theater. Camera work is another important element for these sort of movies, Cinematographer Sudhakar Reddy excelled and contributed to let audience involve. Graphic work may be one of the under appreciated part of the flick, but added required ingridient to scare the patrons.

Avunu Review : Analysis


Avunu is a low budget thriller movie with not many graphics or other artificial elements, rather solely driven through good screenplay, required camera work and enough background score to scare the audience naturally. Movie starts with a twisted screenplay of 'Police men arresting Mohini', elevates charecters in the first half while Chalapathi Rao & Delhi Rajeswari try to bring few smiles on audience face. Placement of scene 'Ghost trying to rape Mohini' as interval bang was alright. Second half pass by with further elevating the Ghost & lead pairs confrontation with it. Climax was not appealing and honestly, Avunu is a 3 rating movie, but the Spoiled, Unfinished, Confusing climax along with the short runtime of around 2 hours, brings this movie rating to 2.5.

  • Scene of Ghost killing Sudha.

Bottom - Line :Good attempt of Ravibabu within the limited resources he has, Climax could have been better. Divide talk on other films, along with the support from youth and thriller movie lovers could make Avunu a commercial success.
