While Raghu has been waiting for job from past 4 years, his younger brother (Hrishikesh) gets placed in a software company. This makes his father (Samuthirakani) razz him for being an idler, whereas Raghuvaran’s mother (Saranya Ponavannan) is a pillar of support, who always keeps encouraging him. Finally Raghu gets the job in a construction company, due to Anita (Surabhi). In the sametime, Shalini (Amala Paul) neighbor falls in love with Raghu. How he succeeded in his ambition and what all problems he faced for that forms the rest of the storyline.Dhanush (in his 25th film) once again proved to himself that he can do any given character with ease and this is one of his finest performances. His expressions and histrionics in this film are above equivalence. The lengthy dialogues were well placed to please the mass audiences. If director would have shunned few valiance scenes and not tried to impersonate Rajinikanth in this film would have worked wonders for him. Amala Paul fits the bill in girl next door character and her wardrobe is perfect. Saranya Ponvannan is at her regular best. Samuthirakani has delivered a brood act as the father of an unemployed graduate. Comedian Vivek role is novel and bereft of his casual moralizing dialogues and does bring out quite a few laughs among the cinegoers. Hrishikesh (cousin of Anirudh Ravichander) has astoundingly does his bit and has brought out the subduedness in his character quite well. Amitesh looks fine as a spoilt brat, but he couldn’t quite match up to Dhanush’s electrifying performance. Surabhi is okay in her limited character. Rest of the cast doesn’t have too much to speak for about their performances. The film has everything. A formulaic story, a popular and charismatic star as the male lead, some heroic episodes, teasing dialogues, all the popular issues in unemployment, all the irremissible elements from the obvious comedy to bone crunching action episodes to heart-rending sentiment and last but not the least, some chartbuster songs. The story is divided into two parts, the first half concentrating on unemployment with some comedy & romance, and the second half dedicated to sentiment, action and message. Where director tries to transform Dhanush into Rajini and turns feel good narrative into hero centric play. The treatment of the story is neat and the director has given adequate screen presence to all the lead characters in the movie. Biggest disappointment being the Amul Baby villain Amitesh, who doesn’t quite match up to the levels, even Dhanush says’ “Nijam cheppali ante nuvvu villain anne feeling ye ravatam ledhu”. The story is clearly focused on the unemployed youths, but the presence of actors, such as, Samuthirakani and Saranya, adds value to the story. The second half is the weaker of the two. The problem here is the total lack of unpredictability when anyone with slenderest experience of teenage films cannot only see what’s going to happen next, but can probably imagine all the dialogues with the camera motions. Movie has its own loopholes, like how Dhanush can afford to be so choosy with his job preference, given the financial condition of his family? How did Surabhi family visit Dhanush (as names of organ donars are kept anonymous and never revealed)? They even failed to retain the flavor of the original due to translated dialogue versions by Kishore Tirumala and Lyrics by Ramajogaiah Sastry (just listen to the tracks in the Youtube Jukebox), which doesn’t fit the bill.
The technical merits of Raghuvaran B.tech include its few witty lines, catchy cinematography and enjoyable soundtrack from Anirudh Ravichandran. The Background Score also electrifies the mood and sticks in the viewers mind. The drawbacks of the movie are the slow pace of the story, particularly in certain sections of second half, where dialogues appear repetitive and dull. The choreography in ‘Vaari Devudaa’ & ‘Luckkanna Mate Nillu’ is hugely enjoyable, featuring some nonsense lyrics, which actually go un-noticed due to the catchy tunes. The editor couldn’t have done better though a fifteen min cut in the 2nd half would have served the film in a better way. The production values of Wunderbar Films and Sri Shravanthi Movies are good.Raghuvaran B.Tech is the Telugu dubbed version of popular Tamil film Velai Illa Pattadhari. Movie begins on a good note (with some feel good parts), even though it doesn’t offer you nothing in terms of story-progress in its first half. Further, post intermission it continues delivering everything predictable and never comes up with something exceptionally different or unique till the end. Raghuvaran B.Tech is a perfectly packed film for the engineering grads, which is purely made to succeed in the initial days of its release and nothing more. Summing up, if you just want to have a bit fine time in the theater, gags at times and few good songs thrown in at regular intervals to keep it going, then probably you may like it as an middling entertainer.Dhanush,Amala Paul,R.Velraj,Sravanthi Ravi Kishore,Anirudh Ravichander.Give it a go for Dhanush.
