Shaakuntalam:Overconfidence never pays!...
One of those ideas, Shaakuntalam is intriguing on paper and as a concept but ultimately boring as a movie. director Gunasekhar, best known for helming Mahesh Babu's okkadu and Arjun, continues to bite off more than he can chew, as evidenced by the way his form deteriorates with each outing. Shaakuntalam is the most glaring example of this. With Shaakuntalam, unquestionably his worst effort in the previous ten years, gunasekhar makes a comeback eight years after the release of Rudhramadevi, another historical action drama.
Shakuntala, the main character in Shaakuntalam (Samantha Ruth Prabhu), has never experienced love. She is Menaka and Vishwamitra's unborn child. Her mother abandons her in the forest, where she is found and cared for by Kanva Maharishi (Sachin Khedekar). king Dushyanta and Shakuntala meet in the forest years later, and it is love at first sight. Dushyanta's courage and attitude captivate Shakuntala as well, and she ends up falling in love with him.
She fears that because she has never had love, she would never be able to have the blissful union with Dushyanta that she so desires. In spite of her fears, Dushyanta secretly marries Shakuntala and promises her a regal welcome once he has completed his military service. Shakuntala becomes pregnant while she waits months for Dushyanta to arrive. One day, Shakuntala is obsessed with her husband and neglects Durvasa Maharishi's (Mohan Babu) visit to their ashram, which makes him angry. He bemoans the fact that Dushyanta would lose all recollection of Shakuntala. How can Shakuntala sway Dushyanta once more by convincing him that she is his wife? This is the story's central theme.
