Recently it was found that a 69 year old doctor in US was found at that he is getting allowances for introducing senior citizens to a Chicago hospital which was running in loss. Venkateswara Kuchipidi was the fifth physician and the 10th accused for taking part in the Medicare and Medicaid fraudulent scheme at the Sacred Heart Hospital.
He was suspected after a week trial to cheat the US for 9 counts and he has received amount for referring patients to the hospital. Each count will carry a minimum sentence of five years imprisonment and 2, 50,000 US$. The US District Magistrate has given a period of sentence and the hearing will be in June.
From 2001 to April 2013, the hospital management and officials were giving huge amount as bribes for introducing patients to the hospital and the amount will be got back through Medicare and Medicaid plan. As per the plan the financially struggling hospitals were earning huge sum as reimbursement from Medicare and Medicaid plans.
As per the hospital record, Venkateswara was the one who was identified as the most prolific source for referring patients to the hospital. In return for his work, the hospital was providing free physicians and nurse practitioners. The hospital allowed him to make the bill to the Medicare and Medicaid for the services of the physician and the nurse practitioner.
