Washington reports that the house Foreign Affairs Committee of the US house of Representatives has voiced its apparent disapproval of the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) that proposes granting indian citizenship to non-Muslim minorities in countries such as pakistan and Bangladesh.

 

Early on tuesday, the contentious bill was pushed by the BJP-led government, cleared by the lower house of parliament.

Commenting on a nytimes.com article, The house Foreign Affairs Committee tweeted: “Religious pluralism is central to the foundations of both india and the US and our core shared values. This is the most basic democratic tenet for any religious test. #CABBill. "

 

As a standing committee of the US house of Representatives, the house Foreign Affairs Committee has jurisdiction over bills and investigations into US foreign affairs.
