Due to a lack of qualified instructors, engineering schools in tamil Nadu have petitioned the All-India Council for Technical education (AICTE) to loosen the rules and permit professors from the EEE and ECE branches to teach computer science engineering (CSE) courses after a brief training program. According to AICTE regulations, only educators with UG and PG degrees in fields relevant to computer science are permitted to teach CSE students.

Nearly half of the students enrolled in courses in CSE, IT, AI and data science, and machine learning last year. Due to the high demand for BE and BTech graduates during the past few years, only a relatively small number of candidates have chosen ME or MTech programs in computer science fields. According to education experts, the teacher shortfall might reach 20% to 30% this year and climb the following year as institutions increase enrollment in computer-related fields in response to demand.

"We have submitted a request to the AICTE asking for permission to use professors from the EEE and ECE departments to teach computer-related subjects. These professors might be required to take pertinent courses, according to R M Kishore, deputy secretary of the tamil Nadu Consortium of Self-Financing Professional, Arts, and Science Colleges. He emphasised that when computer science was launched, faculty from EEE and ECE were permitted to teach it.
