Rahul Gandhi is the youngest leader in century-old Congress Party. And he has the powerful leader in opponent side, Narendra Modi. Although in 2014, they were decimated to double digits in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi’s inspirational leadership has certainly rekindled hopes of making a major turnaround. Definitely, the Congress thinktank is earmarking possibilities in different states of India. In states like Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh and Punjab, Congress has high hopes on a popular mandate.
In most of these states, the local BJP units are either disintegrated or disillusioned to make a good fightback against the BJP. Insiders in the Congress Party believe that the party can pick up 60-odd seats and this will be absolutely against the political ambitions of BJP, costing seats in their own backyard. No doubt, some of the allies of BJP are not in their best forms off late and this can definitely integrate the anti-BJP votes together.
Importantly enough, the coalition dharma of Congress is going to be an acid test for Party President Rahul Gandhi. The whole issue of Rahul Gandhi’s leadership is another perspective that needs serious introspection. No doubt, Rahul Gandhi is sparing no effort unturned to make himself an able competitor to Narendra Modi and this has been evident in his growing popularity with a mature head and statesman like attitude. There is no denying the fact that Narendra Modi – Amit Shah need to find a winning formula to defeat Congress.
