MK stalin, who was sworn in as Tamilnadu's chief minister, revealed the list of ministers and their portfolios. The 34-member cabinet, which includes two women, will be led by the DMK President. At this difficult time, stalin has chosen Palanivel Thiagarajan to head the financial department.

Palanivel Thiagarajan has been appointed as tamil Nadu's new Finance and Human Resource Management Minister. PTR Palanivel Rajan, the late DMK chief, is his father. He then worked in the Global capital Markets division of Standard Chartered bank in Singapore. In the year 2014, he left Standard Chartered bank as Managing director, Financial Markets Sales. He then entered active politics by entering the DMK and bringing with him strong financial management skills, which prompted MK stalin to appoint him to his cabinet.

Thiagarajan campaigned for and retained the madurai Central constituency in the 2016 elections, and he was the head of the DMK's IT Wing at the time. DMK has established a strong and promising social media presence under his leadership. In 2021, he campaigned from madurai Central again and prevailed by a large margin. Though it was assumed that he would be appointed to Stalin's cabinet, no one realised that MK stalin had planned to name Thiagarajan as his Finance Minister. Thiagarajan's main responsibility and the task would be to ensure that the government's financial machinery is free of potholes. He will take office at a time when the state is still deeply in debt, with debt exceeding Rs 5.7 lakh crore.
