PMK founder Ramdas said that the tamil Nadu government should abandon the decision to open 15 new sand quarries in tamil Nadu.

The tamil Nadu government should stop importing sand and abandon its decision to open 15 new sand quarries. Instead, Pamaka founder Ramdas insisted that a dam be built every 5 km on the rivers of tamil Nadu to improve the groundwater level.

In a statement issued today, he said, “The media reports that the tamil Nadu government has decided to stop importing a portion of the river sand for construction purposes in tamil Nadu and open new sand quarries at 15 locations across the state are very worrying. Opening new sand quarries are not good for the environment in any way.

It is said that the reason for the decision of the tamil Nadu government to ban the import of sand is that the price of sand imported from abroad has gone up and no one is willing to buy imported sand at that price. This is not true.

A total of 5.20 lakh tonnes of sand was imported from malaysia from september 2018 until the onset of the corona epidemic. The whole of that sand has sold out at a price of Rs.10,000 per unit.

The reason for the recent decline in sand sales is not because of high prices, but because of the paralysis of construction by the corona epidemic itself. With a unit of river sand extracted from quarries in tamil Nadu selling for up to Rs 12,000, the price of imported sand is even lower.

On the contrary, it seems that the tamil Nadu government is deliberately abandoning sand imports in order to reopen the river sand quarries.

Sand quarries that have been closed due to political and legal struggles should not be reopened for the benefit of others. Such an opening would be detrimental to the environment of tamil Nadu.

Due to sand looting, the river level has dropped and no matter how much water flows in it, the irrigation canals have become impassable. The reopening of sand quarries, which cause numerous environmental impacts, including these, is a major disadvantage.

Therefore, the tamil Nadu government should stop importing sand and abandon its decision to open 15 new sand quarries. Instead, a dam should be set up every 5 km in the rivers of tamil Nadu to improve the groundwater level. Sand imports, m. The government should also increase sand production and ensure uninterrupted supply of sand for construction.
