The chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has a 1,189-square-kilometer area, while the chennai Metropolitan Corporation has a 426-square-kilometer area. 15 zones and 20 workshops are in charge of monitoring the drinking water supply and sewerage. Thousands of millions of litres of drinking water are currently distributed every day. Within the Corporation's boundaries, there are a total of 6,697 kilometres of main drinking water pipes. For a long time, issues such as stagnant rains in chennai and sewage mixing with drinking water have existed.

Chief minister MK stalin has met with top officials twice to discuss monsoon preparations as the northeast monsoon strengthens. The chief minister has directed that the monsoon damage be repaired as quickly as possible. After then, initiatives were done to address complaints about drinking water and sewerage.

This was stated by the officials of the chennai Drinking Water Board and they said, "Chennai's drinking water and sewerage pipelines are between 40 and 100 years old. We've made steps to address any issues that may arise. Work is also underway to replace any pipes that are in need of replacement. Work is currently underway at several locations, including Thandayarpet, Egmore, and kk Nagar. Every day, around 380 complaints about drinking water and sewage disposal are received. Within 5 days, action will be done to address these issues. Complaints about sewage being discharged onto the road through the manhole at the top of the sewer pipe, sewage being mixed with drinking water, and drinking water not being supplied for a long enough period of time are on the rise."
