According to the report published by the Global Hunger Index, india has got 101st place out of 116 countries. What is alarming is that india is one of the 31 countries identified as a hunger-prone country. Last year out of 107 countries, india was ranked 94th. This year the total number has gone up. After india, only 15 countries are the worst. India's neighbor pakistan is also in 92nd place and nepal is in 76th place. india lags worse than Bangladesh. Another worrisome thing to note is that current projections warn that 47 countries will fail to meet even minimum hunger by 2030. india is one of the largest emerging economies in the world, showing strength in the current recession. While this is gratifying on the one hand, on the other hand, the number of people suffering from hunger is increasing and it is a matter of concern.Afghanistan is the only country in the Asian continent that is worse than india in this list. It also ranks 109th. Even pakistan and Sri Lanka, which are economically backward countries than india, are ahead of India.
