BBC headquarters were raided by tax authorities...


The Income Tax Department on tuesday raided the offices of BBC in delhi and mumbai on charges of tax evasion. A team of about 12 to 15 IT officials reached the BBC office at 11.30 am and the phones of all the employees present there were seized. After this, the entire office was searched. 

The IT team searched the data of all the computers kept in the office. The BBC is accused of irregularities in international tax. The BBC also said that it is fully cooperating with the investigation. 

The BBC headquarters were reportedly searched in relation to allegations of difficulties with international taxation and transfer pricing. According to authorities speaking to PTI, the government is looking at records pertaining to the company's corporate operations as well as those pertaining to its indian arm.

Congress has targeted the central government on the income tax raid. congress has called this raid an undeclared emergency. The congress posted, 'First the BBC documentary was banned, now its offices have been raided by IT. This is an undeclared emergency. congress General Secretary jairam ramesh said, 'We are demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) inquiry into the adani case and the government is after the BBC.
