Siddaramaiah, who held the position of chief minister from 2013 to 2018, and congress State Unit President D K Shivakumar are competing for the top position. Siddaramaiah, a mass leader who has been a part of "Janata Parivar" for 2.5 decades and is well-known for his vehement anti-Congress stance, switched to the grand old party in 2006 following the removal of former prime minister Deve Gowda from the JD(S).
On Saturday, as the 75-year-old congress leader made his way to a packed press conference in Mysore, he seemed to be walking with greater energy. Immediately indicating that he has his sights set on the future, Siddaramaiah remarked, "This (the karnataka election result) will be a stepping stone for Congress' victory in 2024." Siddaramaiah's message in the run-up to the elections was dismal. "This is my last run for office. The senior congress leader has made it clear time and time again that he will leave electoral politics. And it now seems that the vivacious Siddaramaiah, who made no secret of his desire to hold the position of chief minister, is considering the future.
