On june 16, 150 ghmc Ward Offices will be opened, bringing civic government closer to the people, MA&UD minister KT Rama Rao said here on Saturday. As part of the decennial celebrations of the formation of telangana State, he said each ward office will have 10 staff members from various departments under the direction of the Ward Administrative Officer (WAO), an Assistant Municipal Commissioner rank officer. He made this statement during an interactive session with ghmc Ward Level Officers on the occasion of telangana Good Governance Day. He declared that a Citizens Charter outlining the process for resolving a complaint will be published and posted at the ward offices.
Besides the WAO, the ward office personnel consists of an engineer, a town planner, an entomologist, a sanitary jawan, a community organiser, a supervisor of urban biodiversity, an assistant, a line inspector, a computer operator, and a receptionist. Rama Rao urged the employees to respond to complaints from all channels, including social media, in-person, and others. He also stressed the value of documenting every recommendation and demand made by the public. He advised staff workers to raise problems right away if they were unable to resolve them on their own.


The minister gave the staff his full support and requested the zonal commissioners to keep a careful eye on the system over the first two to three months till the public is happy. Rama Rao asserted that no other major metropolis in the nation had adopted the Ward office system but was optimistic about its performance and predicted that more towns will follow suit in the future. At the event were minister for Animal Husbandry Talasani srinivas Yadav, mp Dr. G. Ranjith Reddy, MLAs from Hyderabad, and senior officials.

Ward Offices Staff – Responsibilities:

• Ward Administrative Officer: Coordinate with government departments, escalate issues to additional or deputy commissioners or others.
• Ward Engineer: Look after roads, drains, water logging issues, filling of potholes and minor road patch repairs
• Ward Town Planner: Monitor buildings construction, ensure public property is not encroached, and enforce building rules
• Ward Entomologist: Identify water logging areas and undertake anti larval operations. * Ward Sanitary Jawan: Supervise overall sanitation works in the ward
• Ward Urban Biodiversity Supervisor: Responsible for all green programs of the government
• Ward Community Organizer: Coordinate with SHG and NGOs
• Ward Assistant: From HMWSSB to receive and redress complaints on water supply, sewerage, bills and others
• Ward Line Inspector: Attend complaints regarding power supply
