Indian graduates enrolled in academic institutions in australia would be permitted to seek for jobs for up to eight years starting on July 1. Along with a two-year work visa extension, the maximum number of hours that overseas students may work per week will rise from 40 to 48. india and australia inked a collaboration agreement on migration and mobility earlier this month to expand possibilities for scholars, researchers, and businesspeople.

The Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-professionals Scheme (MATES), which is covered by this agreement, would make 3,000 yearly slots available for young professionals from india, enabling them to stay in the nation for two years without needing a sponsor for a visa. Graduates with degrees in specialist fields of study from reputable indian colleges are included in the MATES scheme for temporary visas. Engineering, mining, financial technology, artificial intelligence, information and communication technology, agricultural technology, and renewable energy are among the professions that qualify for the MATES Visa.

Candidates must be under the age of 31, hold degrees from accredited institutions, and be in the beginning phases of their employment in order to qualify for the MATES visa programme. The MATES visa cost and turnaround time have not yet been disclosed. australia said in april that it will change its immigration policy to hasten the entry of highly qualified individuals. The government promised to make the application procedure for high-skilled professionals quick and simple as well as take efforts to keep overseas students in the country in an effort to entice talented migrants.

Along with a two-year work visa extension, the maximum number of hours that overseas students may work per week will rise from 40 to 48 as of July 1. With the reduced cap, overseas students will be able to continue supporting themselves while preserving their education as the major reason for their visa. Throughout the epidemic, the limits on student visa holders' ability to work were loosened; however, they were finally lifted entirely in january 2022, allowing them to work more than the standard 40 hours per fortnight in order to help fill labour shortages.

Additionally, the government declared that some overseas graduates with degrees in fields where there is a confirmed scarcity of skilled labour are eligible for a two-year extension of post-study employment privileges. This extension will extend the Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) for qualified graduates of overseas higher education by an extra two years.

The extension comes on top of the already-existing one- to two-year extension of work rights for qualified students who attend school, reside, and work in regional areas. Post-study employment privileges will be extended from two to four years for some Bachelor degrees, from three to five years for some Master's degrees, and from four to six years for all doctorate degrees. According to data from the 2022 Ministry of External Affairs, 1,00,009 indian students are enrolled in various Australian universities.
