After 27 years in prison, PBV Ganesh, a lifelong prisoner at the Cherlapally Jail, was granted temporary release by the telangana High Court. Ganesh was found guilty of the 1995 murders of Ch Venkataratnam, the assassin of former Ongole mp Magunta Subbirami Reddy, and Venkataratnam. At the time, Ganesh was a member of the banned Maoist party.

Justices K. lakshman and P. sree Sudha, sitting as a division bench, on tuesday granted bail for one month, from July 5 to august 4, while reserving the matter for orders. The bench was deliberating over a writ appeal submitted by Joshi Madhavi, the wife of Ganesh. Senior attorney B Nalin Kumar made arguments on behalf of Madhavi, assisted by the on record attorney T Rahul.

The earlier governor of the State and the State government were of the opinion that the Centre's concurrence was required for granting remission, they claimed, despite the fact that Ganesh was considered for remission on numerous occasions and the case was investigated by the cbi at the State government's request.

In a previous judgement, Justice Kanneganti Lalitha, a single judge, instructed the central government to decide whether to grant the remission. On the other hand, senior attorney Nalin Kumar stated on tuesday that the State government should have the right to provide remission in cases involving Section 302 of the IPC (murder).
