By Independence Day, the Greater hyderabad Municipal Corporation's (GHMC) 13,000 tonnes of steel and 350 crore rupee steel flyover between Indira Park and VST is expected to be officially opened. The flyover is a four-lane, 2.62 km long elevated roadway that is being constructed as part of the expansive Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) of the telangana government.
The ghmc decided to construct a steel flyover here since the area is highly populated and home to several residential and commercial buildings, leaving limited room for land acquisition. "Even if all the property owners agreed to hand over the properties to build the flyover here, only the land acquisition cost would have been double the present cost of the flyover," said a ghmc representative. A steel bridge was also constructed at Punjagutta to prevent the graves underneath it, which are a part of the Punjagutta graveyard, from being disturbed when civil works were being done.

Traffic jams at three important intersections in the city's centre, including VST Junction, Indira Park X-road, and rtc X-roads, will no longer exist once the Indira Park-VST flyover is officially opened. Due to their strategic locations and the nearby residential and commercial facilities, all of these crossroads see high traffic. Because there are several educational institutions and coaching centres in the neighbourhoods around these intersections, the traffic jams worsen during school and college hours.

Along with helping commuters at VST Junction, Indira Park X-road, and rtc X-roads, the flyover would also alleviate traffic jams at Bagh Lingampally Junction and ashok Nagar X-roads. With the exception of a bridge that crosses the Metro rail line, almost all of the construction on the steel flyover has been finished.

According to a ghmc official, the facility will be officially opened on august 15 and the installation of the bridge will be finished in three days. The civic organization had originally hoped to finish the flyover-related work by december 2022, but the deadline was pushed back due to the persistent rain at the time and a decrease in steel supply as a result of the Russia-Ukraine war.

The maximum speed permitted on the flyover will be 40 km/h, according to ghmc officials, who also stated that work connected to commuter safety, including the installation of LEDs, signs, and collision barriers, will be undertaken.
