UP has the highest number of billionaire MLAs in terms of population?


Uttar Pradesh ranks first among the most populous states of India. The state legislature is also the largest legislature in India. 403 MLAs reach the lower house by electing them. But despite being at the forefront of population, Uttar Pradesh has the least number of billionaire MLAs. A recent analysis by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), an NGO that monitors electoral activities, has revealed this. In the report, details of the assets of MLAs of 28 state assemblies and two union territories have been collected.

What is the percentage of Billionaire MLAs in UP?

The average assets per mla in state assemblies have been estimated at Rs 13.63 crore. ADR and National election watch released the data after analyzing the affidavits given by the candidates before contesting the elections. ADR says that out of total 4033 MLAs, analysis of 4001 is included. The MLAs of Uttar Pradesh are the least in terms of assets. The MLAs of karnataka are on the higher rung in wealth. Out of 223 MLAs in karnataka, 32 i.e. 14 percent are billionaires. Only 0.25 percent billionaire MLAs have been found in Uttar Pradesh.

Big claim made in ADR analysis- The second number in the list is Arunachal Pradesh and the third number is from Andhra Pradesh. Out of 59 MLAs of Arunachal Pradesh, 4 i.e. 7 percent are billionaires. Out of 174 MLAs of Andhra Pradesh, 10 i.e. 6 percent have been found to be billionaires. maharashtra has 4 percent billionaire MLAs. 3 percent in Himachal Pradesh, 3 percent in Gujarat, 3 percent in Madhya Pradesh, 2 percent in tamil Nadu, 2-2 percent in Punjab, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Rajasthan, 1 percent in Delhi, Haryana, states rich in mineral wealth chhattisgarh and telangana I also have 1 percent billionaire MLAs. The assets of 88 MLAs, that is, about 2 percent, included in the analysis, have been estimated to be more than Rs 100 crore.
