minister Ponmudi was the minister of Mineral Resources during the DMK regime from 2006 to 2011. Later DMK rule ended and AIADMK came to power. At that time, there was an allegation that he had allowed too much soil to be taken from the quarry. In 2012, a case was registered against Ponmudi and his son gautam Chikamani for causing a loss of Rs 28 crore to the government.

While the raid was going on at minister Ponmudi's house in Saidapet, Ponmudi was taken to the Enforcement Department office in Nungambakkam. A similar series of raids took place at minister Senthilbalaji's house and was later taken to Nungambakkam. At the Nungambakkam enforcement department office, the 7 hours that minister Ponmudi was there for questioning was at the peak of excitement. At the end of the investigation, it was revealed that no arrest was made against minister Ponmudi. After that, minister Ponmudi returned home at 3:30 in the morning. At the same time, the raid on his house also ended.
Speaking to the media yesterday about this raid, chief minister Stalin said that with the parliamentary elections only a few months away, the opposition parties are strengthening their ranks. bjp is getting irritated by it. In order to bring down the government of bharatiya janata party led by Modi, the various opposition parties in india have come together, and we have already convened a meeting of opposition leaders in Patna, bihar state and taken some decisions.
Following this, a meeting of opposition leaders will be held in Bengaluru, where they will be in karnataka state for two days. Leaders of 24 parties are expected to participate in the meeting. This is a meeting that can be convened regularly to defeat the bjp in bihar and subsequently in Karnataka. It has caused great irritation to the bjp regime. This is its manifestation. The enforcement department was launched by them today, and those who were already doing that work in the northern parts of the state, are now starting that work in tamil Nadu as well. The case was filed almost 13 years ago. AIADMK has been in power for 10 consecutive years. At that time, they did not make any effort about it. Even recently, Ponmudi has been acquitted of two cases filed against him by the previous rulers. Therefore, he said that he will definitely meet this legally regarding this case.

Then the chief minister instructed minister Ponmudi to face him bravely and legally.
