In the notification issued in this regard, “9 fishermen from Mandapam area of Ramanathapuram district of tamil Nadu have been arrested by the sri lanka Navy today (25.7.2023) in Nedundiveu area. tamil Nadu fishermen are being arrested, assaulted, and their boats seized by the Sri Lankan Navy.


The chief minister of tamil Nadu has been urging the prime minister of india and the Union minister of External Affairs to take action through letters and phone calls. The chief minister of tamil Nadu, in a letter written to the prime minister of india on 20.7.2023, requested the President of sri lanka, who visited india, to protect the traditional fishing rights of indian fishermen, about the frequent attacks and arrests of tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy, and to fulfill the demands of the tamil people living in sri lanka and ensure that their rights and freedoms are protected.



Also, the Union minister of External Affairs contacted the members of parliament from tamil Nadu and requested to speak to the President of sri lanka, who was visiting india, about the problems faced by tamil Nadu fishermen. In this situation, all the fishermen's associations of tamil Nadu have come together in connection with the livelihood problems of the fishermen and will hold a state conference on 18th august in Ramanathapuram to condemn the continuous arrests of tamil Nadu fishermen and confiscation of their boats.
