Reportedly former punjab congress President and senior congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu has targeted Chief Minister
Bhagwant Mann. Sidhu has raised questions on the bhagwant mann government for withdrawing the decision to
dissolve Panchayats. Sidhu tweeted and wrote - The punjab government's autocratic step of breaking the elected
panchayats out of greed for power has backfired. bhagwant mann, you tried to use the Panchayats as mere
pawns of the government but the Honorable high court slapped you hard on your face.
'If you have the guts, announce the elections in a democratic way'
Sidhu further wrote in his tweet that if you have courage then announce panchayat elections in a democratic
manner. If you have elected MPs and MLAs by the people, why are Sarpanches being nominated and used as
pawns by insulting the spirit of the 73rd and 74th amendments enshrined in the Constitution of India. Hold
elections and your despicable ways will be exposed. Panchayats should be accountable to the village people, not
to those who nominate them for centralization of power.
'Victory to 13 thousand villages and democratic structure'
In his tweet, Navjot Singh Sidhu said that the members of the panchayat Union met me at my residence today to
thank me. I reiterated that it is my duty. Our duty as the opposition is to protect the grassroots level of democracy
which starts from the Panchayat. This victory is the victory of 13000 villages and our democratic structure.
