The bjp and BRS have engaged in a verbal battle about who is to blame for Telangana's lesser share of the krishna River's water due to the disagreement over water distribution between telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The bjp asserts that by accepting just 299 TMCft of water from Krishna, the BRS administration forfeited the state's rights to a higher share of water. The BRS contends that this assertion is false, nevertheless. They clarify that the arrangement was just for a year and was made in 2015 during a tripartite meeting between andhra pradesh and the Centre. Some of Telangana's initiatives for using krishna water, including the Bima, Nettampadu, Kalwakurthy, and Koilsagar projects, weren't finished at that time. telangana intended for this agreement to be for a single year only, as stated explicitly in the minutes of the 2015 meeting. Later, telangana wanted to keep the same clause in place for another year while the projects were still being built.

The palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme was recently launched by chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, drawing criticism from bjp national vice-president D.K. Aruna, who charged the state administration of transferring Telangana's proper share of water to Andhra Pradesh. BRS working president and minister K.T. Rama Rao responded by criticising the bjp for implying that the Centre was delaying Telangana's demand for a 50-50 share of krishna river water until the krishna Waters Dispute Tribunal issued a definitive ruling.

According to a BRS senior, telangana first agreed to 299 TMCft of water as a temporary solution because of project delays, but afterwards wanted a 50/50 split with andhra pradesh beginning in 2018. telangana is asking a 50-50 split on the same temporary basis since the existing allocation of 299 TMCft for telangana and 511 TMCft for andhra pradesh is just temporary. telangana is waiting for the final ruling of the krishna Waters Dispute Tribunal.
