Nitin Gadkari, the Union minister for Road Transport and Highways, on friday opened three National Highways (NH) projects in maharashtra totaling Rs 3,695 crore, one of which would enhance connectivity between the state and Telangana. The minister stated during a celebration held at Washim in maharashtra that the 4-lane National Highway 161, which runs from Akola in maharashtra to sangareddy in Telangana, will improve commercial links between the two states.

The highway from Akola to Medshi is divided into three packages, the first of which costs Rs 1,259 crore and comprises 10 underpasses and 85 culverts. 13 bus shelters, a 6-lane ROB, and a Washim city bypass are all part of the second package from Medshi to Washim, which costs Rs 1,394 crore. Additionally, the major bridge across the Kayadhu River, Kalamanuri, and the Akhara-Balapur city bypass are included in the third package, which runs from Pangre to Warangafata and costs Rs 1,042 crore. Many significant locations in the districts of Akola, Washim, Nanded, and Hingoli will now be connected, according to Gadkari.

Religious and tourism destinations including Shegavche Gajanan Maharaj Temple, Akola Shahnoor Fort, Antriksh Jain Temple, Eighth Jyotirling Aundha-Naganath, Sant Namdev Maharaj Sansthan, Narsi, and Takht Sachkhand Gurudwara in Nanded would be simple to reach and easily accessible. The highway opens up commercial prospects in maharashtra and Telangana, which will boost economic growth and increase jobs.

The minister added that ponds in Savargaon Barde, Jhodga Khurd, Chivra, Amani, Saikheda, and other villages were opened as part of the construction of Sadar National Highway 161 under the "Amrit Sarovar" scheme, and the soil and sand excavated for their creation was used in the construction of the highway. In the last nine years, 227 km of highway network has been constructed in Washim district connecting Vidarbha and Marathwada, he added.
