The UP government has become alert regarding the increasing cases of snakebites in Uttar Pradesh. One step

has been taken towards saving snakebite victims. The government has decided to train health workers to

provide first aid to snakebite victims. In the first phase, health workers from the top three districts Sonbhadra,

Barabanki and Sitapur respectively in snakebite cases will be trained. This project has been targeted to be

completed between the year 2024-26. According to the data received from the relief department, there have

been 728 casualties due to snake bites since April.

To reduce and prevent the cases of snakebite, the state government has decided to include health workers from

the three most affected districts of Sonbhadra, Barabanki and Sitapur for this training. Let us tell you that in the

year 2018-22, 176 cases of death due to snake bite were reported in Sonbhadra, 160 in Fatehpur, 117 in Unnao,

111 in Barabanki. In view of this, the chief minister had declared snakebite as a state disaster. Now work on

this has started.

Relief Commissioner in-charge GS naveen told that in the districts where incidents of snakebite are increasing.

To minimize them, a program of awareness, training and strengthening related systems will be run. There will

be a one-day workshop to educate health workers about first aid and raise awareness about snake bites. Naveen

told that two master trainers will be identified and trained on this subject from three districts respectively.

These master trainers will train other medical related staff etc. at the district and block level.

Relief Commissioner said that in a half-day workshop, ASHA and ANM workers will be trained and made

aware about snakebite at the block level also. Not only this, kits for first aid and awareness in case of snakebite

will also be distributed. The number of these kits will be 25,736. GS naveen said that ASHA workers trained

for this work will get incentives. In this form, they will be given Rs 1000 for the primary and other medical

care of the victim and Rs 500 for the treatment and other facilities of the victim.
