Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) minister KT Rama Rao on sunday officially opened the nation's first solar roof cycling track, marking a significant step towards an environmentally sustainable future in urban transportation. The Healthway track is the second of its sort in the world.
The track, which is situated on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) between the main carriageway and service road, will be open every day of the year, providing the city's devoted bicycle population a big boost. It is also a crucial step towards making hyderabad the nation's center for active mobility. The minister announced intentions to build a comparable track around the Gandipet Lake as well as in the Financial district and Neopolis districts while speaking at the track's opening.

"This bike track is a practical and financially sound idea. The major objective of this project is to inspire our children to be active so that they avoid developing lifestyle-related illnesses in the future, the official said, adding that more sports facilities, such as tennis courts and skate ramps, would be constructed along the track.

The 23-km trail is divided into two sections that come together at Narsingi Junction with five separate entry points: a pink line that runs 8.5 km from Nanakramguda to the telangana State police Academy and a blue line that runs 14.5 km from kollur to Narsingi. There is one meter of open space on either side of the three-lane, 4.5-meter-wide track.

The hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL), a division of the hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), is leading the effort to transform the track into a popular gathering place with amenities including plenty of parking, security cameras, food courts, drinking water, first aid stations, and bathrooms. Bicycle repair shops, docking and rental stations, and other services will be made accessible in an effort to make it simpler for tourists.

The solar roof panels and the track itself will segregate cyclists from the bulk of traffic on the roadways, increasing safety in addition to providing protection from the sun, rain, and other weather elements. In a record-breaking 18 days, 16,000 solar panels were erected in total. This will produce 16 MW of power, which will be used to illuminate the track at night and, it is anticipated, to meet certain additional power needs of ORR. The MA&UD minister saw a post from well-known environmentalist Erik Solheim showcasing the bicycle track in south korea between Daejeon and Sejong, which gave rise to the concept of establishing this route.
