The maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) told the bombay high court that an order was issued to

close a unit of Baramati Agro Limited, run by nationalist congress party (NCP) mla Rohit Pawar, due to

serious environmental violations. MPCB had issued a notice on september 27 directing closure of a part of

Baramati Agro Limited within 72 hours. The company challenged this notice before the high court, which

last month had put an interim stay on the operation of the order till october 16.

These allegations were denied

The MPCB, in its affidavit filed in response to the company’s petition, denied the allegations that the order

was motivated by bias and said it was an allegation made out of frustration". The affidavit filed by MPCB

regional officer shankar Waghmare said that the factory run by the company has violated the norms laid down

in the consent to operate and has seriously violated environmental norms. A division bench headed by Justice

Nitin Jamdar may hear the matter next week. Rohit Pawar is part of the sharad pawar faction of NCP.

MPCB said this

The affidavit filed by MPCB regional officer shankar Waghmare said the factory run by the firm has violated

the norms stipulated in the consent to operate and is a serious violation of environmental norms. "The

continued operations of the petitioner are posing a threat to the environment and, therefore, the petitioner

should not be allowed to continue operations until appropriate remedial measures are taken and compliance

report is submitted the affidavit said.
