Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) punjab unit chief sunil Jakhar on wednesday sought intervention from Governor
Banwarilal Purohit in the case of suicide of a job aspirant woman in Rupnagar. In a purported note, the woman
has held the state education minister responsible for her suicide. sunil Jakhar along with the family members of
deceased Balwinder Kaur met the priest here. Kaur (35), an aspirant for a job as a teacher, had allegedly
committed suicide by jumping into a canal in Rupnagar on october 21.
Denial of last rites unless action is taken against the minister
The deceased teacher had left an alleged suicide note which has surfaced on social media. In this note, Kaur
took the name of education Minister Harjot Bains and held him responsible. Kaur wrote that she was given an
appointment letter in december 2021 for the post of Assistant Professor, for which she had applied, but in
August 2022, the entire selection process was canceled by the punjab and haryana High Court. His family
members are protesting in Rupnagar demanding registration of a case of abetment to suicide against Bains. He
has also refused to cremate the body until action is taken against the minister.
Case registered against husband and father-in-law also
Speaking to the media in Chandigarh, sunil Jakhar criticized the aam aadmi party led government over Kaur’s
suicide. He said, “This incident is a disgrace for the state government. He alleged that Kaur was forced to take
her life. The bjp leader demanded timely action into the circumstances surrounding Kaur’s suicide and urged
the governor to personally intervene in the matter to ensure timely justice for the victim’s family. Following
Kaur’s death, based on a complaint by her brother Hardev Singh, the police had initially booked her husband
and father-in-law for abetment of suicide.
