Activist Manoj Jarange on wednesday asked the maharashtra government to clarify whether it is ready to
give reservation to the entire maratha community or not. He also asked the government why it needed
more time to give reservation. To put pressure on the demand for maratha reservation, Jarange, who was
sitting on an indefinite fast in his native Antarwali village of Jalna district, asked the state government how
much time it needed to fulfill the demand.
He also asked the government to come to the protest site and hold talks. Jarange made this comment after
the government organized an all-party meeting in mumbai during the day to discuss the Maratha
reservation issue. After the meeting, chief minister Eknath Shinde urged Jarange to end his fast and
cooperate with the government. Shinde said that the state needs some time to prepare for the curative
petition filed in the supreme Court. He said that the government needs time to come up with legal
modalities to implement reservation. Referring to Shinde's statement, Jarange said, “I do not want to know
the details of what happened during the all-party meeting. The government says it needs time. The
government should tell how much time it needs and also tell what is the problem in giving reservation to
the maratha community. Then we will think about it.”
He said that the government should have realized this earlier and asked for more time. Jarange said, “But
the government starts asking for time after 8-10 days of my agitation. They should explain in detail what
they are going to do.” Meanwhile, ncp (Sharad Pawar) leader Supriya Sule said that the government has
failed to resolve the issue of maratha reservation. Sule told reporters in mumbai, “This is the failure of the
state government to deal with the issues of the maratha community. This is a corrupt and fake triple engine
government, which is continuously lying to the people and has been doing so.”
He said, “Due to the generosity of maratha activist Manoj Jarange, the government got 10 days additional
time, whereas the government was demanding 30 days (to implement reservation for the community).
When the government demanded 30 days, what was it thinking?” Sule said, “There are around 200 MLAs
with the government and 300 bjp members in the Lok Sabha, but still they are not able to resolve the
issue.”
