Reportedly maharashtra government minister Deepak Kesarkar on wednesday appealed to the citizens not to use
fireworks this diwali and cooperate in improving the poor air quality of Mumbai. He also said that giving
separate reservation to the maratha community without affecting the reservation of other communities is a
major task before the state government. Kesarkar said that fireworks remain a matter of concern for the state
government. The Guardian minister of mumbai City appealed to the citizens not to burst firecrackers and
celebrate diwali by lighting lamps. It is noteworthy that Mumbai’s air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded in
the very poor category. It was in poor and moderate category for the last few days. The level of air quality
in mumbai has become like that of the country’s capital Delhi. However, Brihanmumbai Municipal
Corporation (BMC) is taking steps to control pollution in Mumbai.
Fireworks time from 7 pm to 10 pm
BMC has sent notices to more than 100 contractors who are engaged in private and government projects.
Besides, notice has also been sent to real estate firms by BMC. BMSLI has asked everyone to follow the rules
made. BMC has also been warned of action if the rules are not followed.
Amidst all this, the bombay high court has also limited the timing of fireworks for the people of Mumbai
during diwali from 7 pm to 10 pm. Along with this, the bombay high court has said that citizens will have to
choose between a disease-free environment and bursting crackers during Diwali. A division bench of Chief
Justice DK Upadhyay and Justice GS Kulkarni said it was not going to ban fireworks, but there was a need to
strike a balance in view of the falling levels of air quality index in the city.
