Prime Minister Narendra Modi is launching a major initiative to empower tribals, the PM PVTG (Vulnerable Tribal Groups) Development Movement.

We know that after the independence of India, the Modi government launched a new scheme of around 24,000 crores to ensure the full development of PVTGs (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups) on Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas. In Budget 2023-24, the Pradhan Mantri PVTG Development Initiative was launched to improve the socio-economic conditions of especially Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). According to the study, there are 75 PVTGs in 18 states and union territories in 22,544 villages (220 districts) with a population of about 28 lakhs.

As these tribes live in sprawling, remote and inaccessible habitats, mostly in forested areas, a mission is planned to equip PVTG families and settlements with basic amenities such as road and telecommunication connectivity, electricity, safe houses, clean drinking water and sanitation, improved accessibility. It is the provision of education, health and nutrition and sustainable livelihood opportunities.


This work will be implemented through coordination of 11 interventions from 9 Ministries. For example, under PMGSY, PMGAY, Jal jeevan Mission, some scheme norms are relaxed to cover these remote habitats. Additionally, enrichment will be ensured separately for PMJAY, Sickle Cell Disease Eradication, tuberculosis Eradication, 100% Immunization, PM Surakshit Mathridwa Yojana, PM Mathru Vandana Yojana, PM Poshan, PM Jan Dhan Yojana etc. prime minister Modi will inaugurate all these on november 15.
