Prithvi raj Singh Oberoi, chairman of the Oberoi Group, a prominent figure in the indian hospitality industry, passed away on the morning of november 14. He is 94 years old. Born in New delhi in 1929, PRS Oberoi was the Executive Chairman of EIH Limited, the flagship company of The Oberoi Group. He was also Chairman of Oberoi Hotels Private Limited, a major shareholder of EIH Limited. PRS Oberoi is the son of late Rai Bahadur MS Oberoi, founder of The Oberoi Group.
PRS Oberoi studied in India, england and Switzerland. PRS Oberoi has been instrumental in pioneering the development of Oberoi Hotels and Resorts in addition to providing leadership in managing luxury hotels in several countries. PRS Oberoi is credited with putting Oberoi Hotels on the map of international travelers by opening several luxury hotels in key cities. In january 2008, Oberoi was awarded the country's second highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan. The international Luxury Travel Market (ILTM) presented him with the Lifetime Achievement Award in december 2012, in global recognition of his exceptional leadership, vision and contribution to development.
The Oberoi Group is one of the world's leading luxury hotel chains. It may be noted that PRS Oberoi stepped down as Chairman and director of EIH Limited on May 3, 2022.
