Reportedly the Department of Archaeology has sought time to submit the study report in the Gnanawabi Masjid case. The varanasi district court has allowed a scientific survey by the Archaeological survey of india of the Gnanavabi Masjid complex to determine whether the site of the Gnanavabi Masjid in varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, was built on the site of an earlier temple. Against this, an appeal was filed in the supreme court on behalf of the Anjuman Intejamia Masjid Committee (Gnanawabi Masjid Committee). Hearing the appeal, the supreme court issued an interim stay on the archaeological survey and directed it to approach the allahabad High Court.

Subsequently, the allahabad High court heard the appeal filed on behalf of the Gnanawabi mosque Committee and the varanasi court was justified in ordering an archaeological survey of the mosque premises; It also ruled that scientific investigation is necessary in the interest of justice.

Accordingly, an archaeological survey was conducted at the Gnanawabi Mosque. The deadline for completing the survey was august 4. Subsequently, it was extended to september 4 and then to october 5. After that, the varanasi court granted another month's time and categorically stated that it cannot grant more time. Following this, the Archaeological survey of india informed the court on november 2 that it has completed the archaeological survey of the Gnanawabi Masjid and sought time to compile and file a report with details of the equipment used in the survey. Accordingly, additional time was given till november 17 (today) to submit the document.

In this situation, the Archeology Department of india has filed a petition in the varanasi court seeking another 15 days to submit the report examined in the Gnanavabi Masjid case, according to central government Advocate amit Srivastava. He also said that they have asked for more time as the report on the technologies used in the study is yet to come. While the case was scheduled to be heard this afternoon, the Archeology Department of india has filed a petition seeking another 15 days. The hearing on this petition will be heard tomorrow before district Judge AK Visvesh.
