Tribal woman died who was marginalized by Nehru..!?
On december 6, 1959, Nehru visited a village in West bengal to inaugurate a dam. The Damodar Valley Corporation chose Budni Manjian, a 15-year-old tribal girl, to welcome Nehru. Though Budni Mejan was very happy, little did she know that her life was about to take a very troubling turn. During the opening ceremony, jawaharlal nehru felicitated Putni by garlanding her as it was the first dam inaugurated by a tribal woman. He wanted the dam to be opened by someone who was involved in building it. That night, the panchayat of Santali Sangh was called to discuss these 'developments'.
Budni, according to tribal traditions, was informed that she was now married to jawaharlal nehru as garlands were exchanged. According to tribal traditions, Nehru, now her husband as a non-tribal, was shunned by the Santhali community. During that time, Budni continued working at the Damodar Valley Corporation, but that did not last. He was soon fired from his job, in 1962. And he looked helpless. Later he migrated to jharkhand and struggled to make ends meet there for 7 years. Later he met a man named Sudhir Dutta. He became close to him. They wanted to get married but could not because they feared the repercussions they would have to data-face in their society.
However, they continued to live together and had three children together. In 1985, when rajiv gandhi learned about Budhni, he tracked her down. And Putni went to meet him. As a result, I got a job again in Damodar Valley Corporation. When asked about her wish in 2016, she said, "I request rahul gandhi to get me a house and a job for my daughter, so we can spend the rest of our lives in peace."
