Despite inviting tenders twice, the BBMP is thinking of constructing 100 special ``SheToilets'' for women in the city at a cost of ₹15 lakh to ₹20 lakh each. Under the state government's 'Shubhra Bengaluru' scheme, a plan was drawn up to build special 'SH toilets' for women in the city with state-of-the-art and many facilities in a public-private partnership. Under the project, the contracted organization should invest capital and construct 'She Toilet' at the site provided by BBMP. The BBMP had given permission to put up a billboard on the building, allowing the private organization to earn revenue from it.

In this regard, BBMP has invited tenders twice in the last one year, but private companies are not coming forward for the construction. Thus, BBMP itself has thought of setting up Shi Toilet at the expense.

Reluctance to ban ads:

A ban has been imposed on installation of outdoor advertising banners, holding and other billboards in Bangalore. Thus, private companies will not get any benefit from the construction of Shi Toilet. Also, the space provided by BBMP for toilet construction is very important. For this reason, since private organizations are not coming forward, they are preparing for the construction of Shi toilet by submitting a proposal to the government.

Cost of ₹20 Crore: It will cost ₹20 crore to build 100 toilets. Officials have informed 'Kannadaprabha' that it has been decided to build this toilet only where there is more than 3.5 meters of footpath space. There will be toilets with urinals for breastfeeding children, suitable facilities for women to change clothes, and space for rest.
