
The political history of Sitapur assembly of tribal dominated Surguja division of the state has changed. For the first
time, bjp has hoisted its flag on this seat which came into existence 72 years ago. And the former soldier, who
resigned from the army job, has given a crushing defeat to four-time mla and one-time minister Amarjeet Bhagat.

Ramkumar Toppo has defeated congress candidate Amarjeet Bhagat in Sitapur assembly elections by a huge
margin of 17 thousand 1 hundred 60 votes.
A new chapter has been written in the 2023 assembly elections in Sitapur assembly, which is the safest for
Congress in North Chhattisgarh. In the current elections held on this seat, there were 17 candidates in the fray. But
as always, the direct contest on this seat was between Congress's four-time mla Amarjeet Bhagat and BJP's
former soldier ram Kumar Toppo. After the results of this election came, BJP's ram Kumar Toppo got a total of
83 thousand 88 votes with 50.36% vote share, while congress candidate Amarjeet Bhagat got 65 thousand 9
hundred 28 votes with 39.96% vote share.
Minister has edge only in first round
Counting took place in 18 rounds on december 3 for the voting held in 245 polling stations of Sitapur Assembly.
In the first round of counting, congress candidate Amarjeet Bhagat took the lead by 361 votes. After that, in the
second round, he lagged behind by 118 votes and in the third round, the bjp candidate's lead reached 1440 votes.
The lead remained intact for the entire 18 rounds of vote counting and in the end the victory-loss margin reached a
huge figure of 17 thousand 1 hundred 60.
