Usually job hunting is a wild jungle where survival depends on standing out from the pack. Amidst the multitude of job applications, a candidate from kolkata took a distinctive approach that caught the attention of all the HR departments on LinkedIn. His target? The position of copywriter at Swiggy. Forget the traditional “I’m a hardworking individual with excellent communication skills" spiel. Rohit Sethia took a different route, filling his pitch with side-splitting reasons why he’s the Chuck Norris of copywriting. Sethia’s 11-page application has caught the attention of social media users and Swiggy’s Assistant Manager, Devanshi Dhingra.
In an attention-grabbing post on LinkedIn, Sethia kicked off his unconventional pitch with a greeting to swiggy and a direct tag to Devanshi Dhingra. “Hi, Swiggy! Devanshi Dhingra, saw your post that you’re hiring copywriters. Here are some of the many reasons why you should consider me! Looking forward to hearing from you guys!" he wrote.
He opens by introducing himself as someone who closely follows Swiggy’s competitor, Zomato, for “competition purposes." Sethia adds a humorous touch to his pitch, describing himself as funny and aspiring to be a stand-up comedian, and even shares a picture with Anubhav Singh Bassi. The LinkedIn post quickly gained traction, with numerous likes and comments pouring in from users who appreciated Sethia’s creativity and humour. The post’s popularity can be attributed to Sethia’s unconventional approach to the traditionally formal job application process. Devanshi Dhingra acknowledged Sethia’s unique application with a response on LinkedIn. Dhingra wrote, “Someone knew how to stand out from hundreds of applicants. We have heard you Rohit, and we’ll get back to you."
