Businessmen have expressed their concern over the installation of karunanidhi statue, saying that salem district collector Karmekam has threatened his life. TR Sundaram's Modern Theaters, hailed as the father of the tamil Nadu screen world, has been sold to a private company by his heirs. It is well known that celebrities like artist karunanidhi, MGR, jayalalitha and others were introduced to tamil Nadu through Modern Theaters. Its entrance is still privately maintained today in honor of Modern Theatres.

Vijaya Verma, the owner of the land, said that tamil Nadu chief minister Stalin had asked for the price of the 1350 square feet land where the memorial is located, and he would give an answer after consultation. Meanwhile, the landowners have complained that salem district governor Karmegam is threatening the officials by claiming that the area where the entrance gate symbol is located belongs to the highway department to gain the goodwill of the tamil Nadu chief minister.

The owners have alleged that there is an attempt to expropriate the land for the installation of Karunanidhi's statue, while they were planning to display the equipment used by DR Sundaram to make a movie at the place. They lamented that the district governor has forgotten his responsibility and is engaging in anarchy like a fourth-class human being for not giving them land for the statue and that their family has been threatened with life by the district governor Karmekam.
