An MP-MLA court in Sonbhadra been sentenced Ramdular Gond, bjp mla from Duddhi assembly

constituency (a seat reserved for Scheduled Tribes), to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl

nine years ago. Additional district and Sessions Judge (ADJ) Ehsan Ullah Khan of the MP/MLA court also

imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on the accused which will be used for the rehabilitation of the victim. Special Public

Prosecutor (POCSO) satya prakash Tripathi said that the court had convicted the mla on december 12 and had

fixed december 15 for sentencing. Before the verdict was pronounced, Gond’s lawyer requested for minimum

punishment and also assured the court that the rape victim’s family would be fully taken care of by the accused.

Case was registered under POCSO

Gond is a bjp mla from Duddhi assembly constituency in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh. Tripathi said that

this incident took place on november 4, 2014, in which a case was registered against the mla under sections 376

(rape), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the indian Penal Code and provisions of the Protection of

Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO). At the time of the incident the MLA’s wife was the village head.

Hearing was going on in POCSO court

In this case, Ramdular Gond was accused of raping a minor girl. The police of Myorpur police station had

registered a case on the complaint of the victim girl's brother. Gond was not an mla at that time and the case was

being heard in the POCSO court. After Gond was elected mla, the hearing of the case was transferred to the

MP/MLA court.
