Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde said on wednesday that any decision on caste-based enumeration will
be taken after taking opinion from all sections of the society and keeping in mind the sentiments of the people.
Shinde visited the Reshimbagh memorials of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) founder KB Hedgewar and
second Sarsanghchalak MS Golwalkar and paid homage to them.
Shridhar Gadge’s statement on caste based calculation
Earlier on Tuesday, RSS functionary Shridhar Gadge had said that caste based calculation should not be done
and also asked what would be achieved by this? Vidarbha co-sanghachalak Gadge told reporters that such an
exercise may benefit some people politically, as it will give data on what is the population of a certain caste, but
it is not beneficial socially and in the context of national unity. I am not good at.
Congress in favor of caste based census
Whereas congress is in favor of conducting caste based census across the country. When asked about the RSS
functionary's comments, Shinde said on wednesday that maharashtra is a progressive state and its culture and
tradition is different from other states. He told reporters, “Here people of all communities and castes live, work
and celebrate together. Therefore, a decision will be taken after taking opinion from all sections of the society
