Karumparai Muttiah temple is situated near Tirumangalam Karatikkal in madurai district and is the guardian deity of the village. This temple has been hosting a festival for many years in the month of Margazhi, in which only men participate. The goats sacrificed in this festival are kept in good condition and reared in the temple itself. people from villages like Karadikkal, Kunnampatti, Patapatti etc. leave the Kitai in this temple after their wishes are fulfilled. The goats left like that graze in the fields in the villages surrounding this temple. No one chases away the temple devotees. They believe that Muttiah Sami is hunting for prey in their fields.
This year's Karumpara Muttiah temple festival took place yesterday morning. For this purpose, 62 goats were sacrificed in the temple. Then a grand non-vegetarian feast was prepared. And 85 sacks of rice were ready and served to the thousands of men gathered there. Devotees ate rice and mutton with leaves. people from various areas including Tirumangalam, Karadikkal, Mavilipatti, Sekanurani, Cholavandan participated in the curry. After eating this non-vegetarian feast, it is customary to leave the leaf intact without removing it. After these leaves dry and disperse from the area, women come to the temple to worship Sami. Small kits were also left to beautify the temple premises for the next year's festival.
