Population decline in china for the 2nd year in a row!? Why?

China once surpassed india in population. But this year it has decreased significantly. China's population, once the world's most populous, has declined for the second year in a row. According to a report, China's population will decrease even more in 2023 than in 2022. By the end of 2023, the population of china will be 1409 million. Last year, india overtook china to become the world's most populous country. China's declining population raises concerns about long-term economic growth. So, in Beijing, it is now scrambling to increase the birth rate through subsidies and pro-fertility campaigns.
What is the reason?
After the introduction of the one-child policy, China's birth rate fell sharply. In 2015, this rule was relaxed and two children were allowed, but the birth rate did not increase. The COVID pandemic also contributed to this. The rising cost of living and more women entering the workforce contributed to the population decline. As China's youth population declines, so does the labor force. Consumers are also down. The number of elderly people has increased. Costs associated with elder care and retirement benefits are rising. All these factors are reducing the development prospects of the country.
Further decline in 2050:

United Nations experts estimate a significant decline in China's population by 2050. By 2035, China's retirement-age population aged 60 and above is expected to exceed 40 million.
