A metropolitan court in ahmedabad on tuesday (January 16) acquitted congress MLA Jignesh Mevani and 30 others in the case of disrupting a train in protest against the policies of the state government. The court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate PN Goswami acquitted Mevani and others in this 2017 case, giving the benefit of doubt.

In 2017, 'Rail Roko' protest was called under which Rajdhani Express was stopped for 20 minutes at Kalupur railway station. In this case, ahmedabad police had registered a case against Jignesh Mevani and others. This rail roko was called to protest against the policies of the state government. A case was registered against Mevani and others under relevant sections of the IPC related to illegal gathering of crowd, rioting, obstructing the work of a government employee and criminal conspiracy. 13 women were also included among these accused.

Mevani has also been acquitted in a case of 2016

A case was also registered against all 31 accused under Section 153 of the Railway Act. This section is imposed on offenses related to endangering the safety of passengers. Mevani is the congress MLA from Vadgam assembly constituency and also the convenor of NGO Rashtriya Dalit Adhikar Manch. In fact, a sessions court had refused to acquit him in this case. Let us tell you that in 2016, Jignesh Mevani and six other people were accused of protesting without police permission at the Income Tax intersection. He was taken into custody at that time. There were also allegations against him of vandalizing a police vehicle and rioting. However, in november last year, all seven people including Mevani were acquitted in this case also.
