Reportedly anand Mohan was released from jail in the month of april last year. He was guilty of the murder of G Krishnaiah, the district Magistrate of Gopalganj. He was also sentenced to death in this case, but after some time of this decision, the upper court changed anand Mohan's sentence to life imprisonment. After which the bihar government amended the Jail Rules 2012.

Hence according to the old rules of Jail Rules 2012, there was a provision that no relaxation would be given to five categories of prisoners before 20 years of life imprisonment. murder of public servants was also included in these five categories, but the bihar government amended this rule and removed the murder of public servants from this category. anand Mohan got the benefit of this. When anand was released in the month of april, there was political uproar from delhi to bihar, but even at that time Nitish government was on the front foot in defense of anand Mohan and was saying that the release was legal.

Perhaps lok sabha elections are going to be held in the country in a few months, hence in view of the recent incident of switching sides, it is being speculated that anand may join JDU in this lok sabha elections.

According to the political analyst, an attempt can be made to woo the upper caste voters, especially Rajput and Bhumihar, through anand Mohan. At present the population of upper caste voters in bihar is about 18 percent. These include Bhumihar 6, Rajput and Brahmin 5.5-5.5 percent. Not only this, in many seats in North bihar like Bettiah, Shivhar, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Motihari and Hajipur, upper caste voters play a big role in deciding victory or defeat. anand Mohan also has dominance in these areas.
